The exterior is finished in Shou Sugi Ban, a traditional Japanese wood-burning technique that carbonizes the surface and makes it naturally resistant to moisture, rot, and the elements. No exterior sealants. No varnishes. Just burnt wood doing what burnt wood has always done.
